There had always been rumors. The woman who lifted a car off of her baby trapped underneath. The man who pulled an entire family plus their cat out of a burning building and came out without a burn. These stories were easily shrugged off. Adrenaline one might say. Or exaggerations. In 2011 there was a sixteen year-old boy who called himself 'Titan'. He had the power of terrakinesis. He and a few others pulled off a stunt that would prove these rumors true. They went to Times Square, NYC at rush hour. Titan rose a giant stone pillar in the middle of the intersection while civilians watched in awe and fear while his group caught it all on camera. Titan simply stated that superhumans did exist and it was time they could all come into the open. One member of his group had the power to turn others invisible and allowed them to escape safely. The video was published, and not just from Titan's group. It spread like wildfire and this time the government could not keep it secret.
Soon after the events in NYC a government organization came forth, calling themselves the Department of Titan Risk Control. They admitted to having known about these superhumans already. They named the gene 'Titan'. They urged anyone who thought they may have the Titan gene to come to their new assessment facilities to be tested. Many who went never came out and those who did either did not have the gene or had abilities that could hardly be used against them. Some gifted were given the opportunity to work with them to track down and capture other Titans.
A group with the name Haven made themselves known. They put spies in the D.T.R.C. to figure out what was going on so they could expose the truth. A woman with the alias 'Ghost' hacked into a major television channel to broadcast her announcement. She stated that any gifted that were in hiding should seek them out. They were there to protect their fellow Titans from being captured. Ghost warned everyone that they had discovered what was happening to those who had been assessed. They were being transported to holding facilities and given a serum that would prevent one from being able to use their powers. This serum would only last for a short time but high-risk Titans would be dosed with it often. Ghost ended her broadcast saying that they had Titan himself and he was safe.
In 2016 another group formed. Many in Haven were not satisfied with how they were running things and wanted to do more than simply hide. Titan was among them. They formed Aegis with Titan as their leader. They did not wish to oppose Haven, only take more action. Aegis began to plan full-on breakouts of holding facilities and sabotage trucks containing the nullifying serum. They planted their own spies in the D.T.R.C. so they could counter-attack agents who had been sent out to capture Titans in hiding. Those they had rescued often joined Aegis or Haven.
Titan, the leader of Aegis, was among the rescuers sent out on their biggest break-out yet. It was on the main Chicago holding facility. The break-out had been going smoothly when a group of agents showed up with serum-guns. Many of the agents were taken out and most of the Aegis members escaped with the gifted they had been breaking out. Titan, however, never made it out. Aegis has not yet figured out where they have taken him though it is assumed he is in the largest holding facility in the county: NYC. Aegis' second-in-command, a man who goes by Viper, has been left in charge until Titan's return.
